My first Bass Pro Outdoor World Spirng Fishing Classic happened more years ago than I care to admit, back when there was only one store and absolutely anyone who was anyone in the fishing world, especially freshwater fishing, attended and spoke to the public at what was then a one weekend only event. All the big name Bass Pros were there along with outdoor television celebrities (back when they were two entirely different groups), writers and industry representatives, held simultaneous seminars in locations spread all over the Springfield, MO Mother Ship and even in tents in the parking lots. You had to choose who, what and when to see them: Denny Brauer at the Big Tank, or Wally Marshall in the main tent, or maybe Lefty Kreh in the White River Fly Shop; they would all be going on at the same time and every hour a new speaker would be overlapping with other new presenters. Ahhh, Good Times…
Today, BPS has many stores and the big name speakers are spread pretty thin all across the country, and don’t forget that the Bassmasters Classic, and the yearly industry show that accompanies it, is also going on during the first weekend. The featured National Pro at the Denver Bass Pro event is Walleye Pro Chase Parsons.
No doubt most of you received a Bass Pro flyer in the mail with many of these event details and there are the usual sales and some new ones to take advantage of. If you did not get a flier a digital version is available at the Bass Pro website, click on locations and the Denver store for local speakers and times.
On the first weekend, the people at Bass Pro stores all over the country are providing training and educational type seminars on specific topics that can help the old-pro and newbie alike. From “Advance Small and Largemouth Tactics” by local favorite and Colorado Bass Pro-Staff Sam Heckman, “Trout in Your Area- Timing, Tactics, and Gear” by Jack Winter and Tim Woodward, or “Local Fishing Tips and Techniques” by Jim Cranmer. Most speakers are available long after their seminar to answer questions and visit with anglers.
On Saturday the 25th, FishExplorer’s very own Dave Coulson will feature his multi-specie fly fishing skills at 12:30 PM, “Dredging Up Trophy Fish with a Fly- Using Deep Water Techniques.”
I was happy to meet many readers at the ISE Show back in January, and would like to meet more of you at the two seminars I will be doing on the first weekend: “Spinnerbait Basics” at 5 PM on the 25th, and “The Tackle and Tactics of Power Fishing vs. Finesse Fishing” at 1 PM on the 26th.
The first week, starting on the 24th to the 29th is the popular Reel Trade-In, where customers can get up to $100 off the price of a new reel with a working reel trade-in. Bass Pro will take your reel-trade in, clean and refurbish them, and give them to youth organizations right here in Colorado. I have seen a lot of different reels come in, including some really good ones, but all will get a Trade-In card to use at checkout to take up to $100 off the price of your new reel, depending on the retail price of the new reel.
