Nate Caldwell & John Santos Lead 2016 Colorado BASS Nation State Team at Lake Mead

     The Colorado BASS Nation State Team landed in 5th Place in Team Standings at the 2016 Academy Sports + Outdoors B.A.S.S. Nation Western Regional presented by Magellan Outdoors.  Nate Caldwell takes the top spot for the Team on the Boater side and John Santos takes 1st Place among the Co-anglers.

     The 11-state field of teams was led by Utah with a total weight of 335-15.  The Colorado State Team landed a total weight of 271-8 for the 5th Place spot.  In this new pro-am format, which cuts the field for the third day, the Team Standings are totaled after the second day, before the cut eliminates team members.
     The top boater and top co-angler from each State Team now move on to fish the Academy Sports + Outdoors B.A.S.S. Nation Championship presented by Magellan Outdoors.  The date and location of the National Championship is to be announced.
     Nate Caldwell, a member of Centennial Bassmasters from Ft. Collins, brought in a 5-fish limit each day to achieve a total weight of 39-11 in the Boater Division, placing Caldwell in 8th Place overall and just under 10-lbs. out of the lead.  He was followed by Ty Faber with 34-11, and Brandon Genova with 32-6.  The rest of the team followed in order: Larry Triplett, Garry Harner, David Flemming, Derek Phillips, Pete Acosta, Todd Gentzel, and Mark Warren.
     John Santos rose to the top of the Co-anglers to lead Colorado with 17-13 and placing 16th place overall.  Son Connor Santos chased Dad with 13-10 followed by Jeff Gustin at 12-10.  The rest of the Co-angler side of the team finished: Bob Howard, Howard Wong, Jr., Brian White, Troy Wiessenberger, Mark Faber, Dennis Heusser, and John Robertson.
